A Joyful Word

A Joyful Word

READ: Psalm 119:161-168

Psalm 119:161-168 (KJV)
161  Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word.
162  I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.
163  I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.
164  Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.
165  Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
166  LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments.
167  My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.
168  I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee.

KEY THOUGHT:

The Word of God is filled with promises that bring great joy to those who hear it and believe. That joy starts with salvation and grows from there as God reveals His truth by way of His Holy Spirit. As the Psalmist indicates in verse 162, we can rejoice in God’s Word as we discover the great treasures it holds.

CONSIDER:

  1. How does the Bible bring you and others joy?
  2. When you think about all of the things that bring you joy, how does the Bible rate against the other things?
  3. Who is more likely to have the most joy in their life: a person that reads the Bible consistently or someone who seldom reads the Bible? Why or why not?

APPLICATION:

Receive joy from reading and understanding God’s message of love provided through His Word.
