22  Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
23  Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

KEY THOUGHT:

Having a good friend is one of the great treasures of life. This is especially true of friends that share your faith in Jesus Christ. A good friend helps and encourages. A good friend is devoted and faithful. Paul mentions one of his friends as a “beloved brother” named Tychicus, who Paul trusted deliver his messages to the church – important messages that helped shape the early church during a time of great trials. As Paul mentions Tychicus, it’s easy to see that he has the characteristics of a true friend. God gives you opportunity to have good friends. But to do so, you must also be a true friend to others. Proverbs 18:24 shows that to have a good friend, you must be friendly in like manner. Do you have a friend like Tychicus that can help you when you are going through trials? Are you a friend to others like Tychicus was to Paul?

CONSIDER:

  1. What are the characteristics of Tychicus that made him a true friend to Paul?
  2. How does having a true friend help you when you are troubled?
  3. How can you be a better friend to others?
  4. Do you have a friend that you would trust with an important message or task? What makes you trust that friend in such a way?
