A Call to Stand in True Grace

A Call to Stand in True Grace

READ: 1 Peter 5:12-14

1 Peter 5:12-14 (KJV)
12  By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
13  The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.
14  Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

KEY THOUGHT:

Being humble, watchful, settled and standing firm are all important characteristics of a Christian. But none of that is possible unless you first stand in the true grace of God found in Jesus Christ. In fact, being a Christian is not possible unless you stand in that true grace. The apostle Paul wrote this to the church in Ephesus, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). It doesn’t matter how hard you work at being a Christian; you will never be a genuine Christian unless you stand in that grace. It is that true grace that saves you by your faith (belief) in Jesus Christ. The true grace of God is a gift – it is something you don’t deserve, can’t earn, can’t buy, but it is something that you can receive by accepting the gift that God offers through Jesus Christ. Are you standing in the true grace of God?

CONSIDER:

  1. What does it mean to be saved by grace?
  2. Why is it important to know the true grace of God and stand in it?
  3. How does your faith relate to God’s grace?
  4. If you had to defend yourself as a genuine Christian, what is your proof?

APPLICATION:

Stand in the grace of God provided through Jesus Christ!
