A Sure Calling

A Sure Calling

READ: 2 Peter 1:9-11

2 Peter 1:9-11 (KJV)
9  But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

KEY THOUGHT:

In the book of James, God’s Word tells us that faith without works is dead. This means that that a Christian who has been made alive by their faith in Jesus Christ will have evidence of their faith, which will be seen through their works. The things that Peter calls you to add to your faith are products and evidence of your faith. If they don’t appear, it may be because you’ve gotten off track and forgotten what God did for you through His great gift of salvation. Or, it could be that you haven’t genuinely experienced that great gift. It’s important to be sure that you’ve answered the Holy Spirit’s call to trust in Jesus Christ as Savior because trusting in Him, and Him alone, is the only way to enter into His everlasting kingdom.

CONSIDER:

  1. How do you know for sure that you are saved?
  2. Why is it important to have a personal relationship with Christ that produces fruit?
  3. List some of the fruits of your faith that you can be sure is evidence of your salvation.

APPLICATION:

Make certain that your salvation rests on your faith in Jesus Christ and in Him alone.
