A Promised Victory

A Promised Victory

READ: 1 John 5:1-5

1 John 5:1-5 (KJV)
1  Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

KEY THOUGHT:

You want to win, right? For a Christian, winning means that you’ve overcome the world. God’s Word promises that if you have faith, you will have victory. To get the victory God promises, you must have genuine faith. Genuine faith is not just words. Genuine faith is the demonstration of what you believe through the way you live. It’s living in a way that shows your identity with and in Jesus Christ. Faith that brings victory is believing that Jesus is your Savior and that He is the Son of God, believing that He gives you new life in the family of God through regeneration (being born again), loving Jesus and the Father as your family, and living a life of obedience to God. Is your faith genuine? Does it bear the marks of a child of God? If so, you can be sure that you have victory over the world, over sin, over death and over the grave!

CONSIDER:

  1. Why is believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior important to you?
  2. What makes you a “winner” as a Christian?
  3. How does obedience demonstrate that your faith is genuine?
  4. What will you do with the victory you receive by faith in Jesus Christ?

APPLICATION:

Claim the victory found by faith in Jesus Christ!
