Driven to Grow

READ: Philippians 3:13-16

Philippians 3:13-16 (KJV)
13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15  Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16  Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

KEY THOUGHT:

It’s easy to get in a rut – to be comfortable in one place and complacent about your faith. Being comfortable leads to complacency, which leads to inactivity, laziness, apathy and stunted growth. To grow vigorously as a Christian, you need to keep moving by exercising you faith. You do that two ways: 1) by not letting the past hold you back, and 2) by focusing on the right goals – allowing the prize drive you to grow and live victoriously by faith. When you do these things, you will see results that help you grow as a Christian.

CONSIDER:

  1. What steps can you take to keep moving forward in your pursuit of Jesus Christ?
  2. How can your past accomplishments and failures hold you back?
  3. What is the prize that drives you to grow in Christ?

APPLICATION:

Press on as a Christian, driven to grow in Christ!
