The Hope of the Gospel (1 Thessalonians 1:1-5)

The Hope of the Gospel (1 Thessalonians 1:1-5)

READ: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5

1 Thessalonians 1:1-5 (KJV)
1  Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2  We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
3  Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
4  Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
5  For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

KEY THOUGHT:

Life is full of battles. In fact, everyday has plenty of skirmishes that can either be won or lost depending on the choices you make. In this daily battlefield where do you find hope? The only sure hope is found not in the world but in the gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s why the church must labor patiently as it perseveres to share the hope of the gospel with a lost and dying world. That hope is based not only on the word of the gospel, but on its power and the assurance that comes from the Holy Spirit – the assurance of the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

CONSIDER:

  1. How does the gospel give you hope in your daily struggles?
  2. In what ways does the church persevere to spread the gospel?
  3. How do you get assurance of eternal life from the gospel?

APPLICATION:

Get your daily hope from the eternal promise of the gospel!
