You Can Have a Testimony of Comfort (2 Thessalonians 2:11-17)

READ: 2 Thessalonians 2:11-17

2 Thessalonians 2:11-17 (KJV)
11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13  But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14  Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15  Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
16  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
17  Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

KEY THOUGHT:

The urgency of the times is evident. As Paul describes the last days before Christ’s return, he indicates the sad conclusion for those who choose not to believe. They will fall under a “strong delusion,” which causes them to believe a lie that dooms them to perish. But that doesn’t have to be the case. While there’s still time, those who don’t know Christ as Savior can answer the Spirit’s call to the cross, accepting that God so loves them that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for them so that they could believe on Him and would not perish, but would have everlasting life (John 3:16).

If you’re a believer and have answered the call to salvation through Jesus Christ, then your heart can be comforted in knowing that every promise of God is true and that His salvation is sure! You can stand fast in that comfort and know that He will use you according to His purpose as the day of Christ’s return approaches.

CONSIDER:

  1. How does God demonstrate His patience today, even when the world is wicked and ungodly?
  2. How does taking comfort in your salvation help you fulfill God’s purpose?
  3. How can you help comfort others as the day of Christ’s return approaches?

APPLICATION:

Help lead others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ before it’s too late!
