READ: 1 Timothy 2:9-15
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
KEY THOUGHT:
A pattern is a design. God has a design or pattern for your life. Staying true to God’s pattern means that you follow the design that God has for you as a Christian – the pattern of godliness. This may be one of the most difficult challenges you face today. For the most part, the difficulty lies in the cultural challenges you face when trying to live a pattern of godliness as a Christian woman (as this passage specifically addresses) or as a Christian man.
It’s important for you to recognize and understand that God’s design for women and men hasn’t changed regardless of how far cultural trends may have drifted from His pattern. God expects men to be men and women to be women. Today, that’s a hard saying. But it’s Biblical.
The key to all of this is godliness. When you decide to live a godly life – one that honors God – then following His pattern won’t be as difficult as it might seem.
CONSIDER:
- How has today’s culture distorted God’s design?
- Why is godliness important to you as a Christian woman or man?
- What are some indications of godly behavior in your life?
- What can you do to help remedy any ungodly behavior?
APPLICATION:
Be the kind of Christian woman or man that God designed by following His pattern of godliness.
