READ: 1 Peter 5:10-11
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
KEY THOUGHT:
There’s a saying that goes something like this, “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” There’s a lot of truth in those words. We see evidence of it in our culture. What once were unimaginable acts are now commonplace in society. In fact, some of our laws protect actions that would have been criminal only a few decades ago. How does society and culture change like that? It’s because no stand was taken. It’s because there was no establishment on a firm foundation. As a result, when struggles came and tough choices had to be made, there was no strength to stand firm. So things that were right fell and were replaced by the easy and not-so-right alternatives. It doesn’t have to be that way, especially for you. God gives you everything you need to stand for what is right and to withstand the devil. God’s grace covers you and will see you through the difficult times and will help you make the right choice, even when it’s tough. His promise is that if you stand, He will establish you, make you complete, strengthen you and will settle you to keep you from falling. Think about the story that Jesus told about the man who built his house on the sand and the man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24-27). Just as the storms brought down the house built on sand, the winds of cultural change will cause you to fall unless you are built on the firm foundation of God and His Word. Are you settled on a firm foundation or on the shifting sands of today’s culture?
CONSIDER:
- What are some examples of the unsettled world around you?
- How can you recognize someone who is settled in Jesus Christ?
- Are you more likely to settle for what the world tells you or be settled in the Word of God?
APPLICATION:
Let God establish you and settle you in the faith!
