A Faithful Few (2 Timothy 4:11-13)

A Faithful Few (2 Timothy 4:11-13)

READ: 2 Timothy 4:11-13

2 Timothy 4:11-13 (KJV)
11  Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
12  And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.
13  The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.

KEY THOUGHT:

Being a team member is a privilege. Being a faithful team member is a blessing. One of the most important things you can do when you become a church member is to be faithful. Being faithful means that you can be counted on. The apostle Paul had many members of his team, but only a few were considered faithful at this point of his life.

In his present state, Paul had only one companion that stayed near his side – Luke. As he called on Timothy, he asked for others to come as well, including Mark who was noted specifically here in Scripture. In fact, Paul’s description of Mark was that he was “profitable” to him for the ministry.

What made Luke, Timothy, and Mark so precious to Paul? It was their faithfulness. Unlike others that Paul called out for their unfaithfulness and evil works, these three were the team members Paul wanted at his side as his ministry came to a close. They were the faithful few that made a difference. Could you be a team member in your church that’s one of the faithful few?

CONSIDER:

  1. Why is faithfulness a key to the ministry?
  2. How can you be more faithful in your church?
  3. Name some of your close Christian friends who you consider faithful. What characteristics make you consider them to be faithful?

APPLICATION:

Be profitable to the ministry by being faithful!
