A Final Call (2 Timothy 4:19-22)

A Final Call (2 Timothy 4:19-22)

READ: 2 Timothy 4:19-22

2 Timothy 4:19-22 (KJV)
19  Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
20  Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.
21  Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.
22  The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

KEY THOUGHT:

“Do thy diligence to come before winter.” These are some of the final words the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy as he faced certain death in a Roman prison. As he faced an inevitable end, Paul desired Timothy to come to him and to bring the items he specified earlier in this chapter (2 Timothy 4:13: a cloak, books, and parchments – “especially the parchments”) before winter arrived.

Even as he anticipated his trial and the hardship of winter, Paul endured and desired to keep busy with his books and copies of Scripture. He needed the cloak to keep warm. Even more, he needed the tools of his ministry to sustain him through the winter as he endeavored to minister to others until the very end. What would you desire if you faced a certain end? Would your focus be on ministering to others or on something more personal?

CONSIDER:

  1. List some of the things that you would want with you if you were going through a difficult time? Why are these things important to you?
  2. What priority do you give to ministering and helping others? How does this compare to the priority you give to your social and leisure activities?
  3. How can you have a better focus on ministering to others for Jesus Christ?

APPLICATION:

Let serving God be the priority of your life from beginning to end!
