READ: 2 Timothy 4:7-8
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
KEY THOUGHT:
When everything is said and done, and you approach the finish line for your life, what will you have to show for it all? The apostle Paul could say with high confidence that he had accomplished three things that really mattered: 1) he fought the good fight; 2) he finished his course; and 3) he kept the faith. As a result, Paul was assured that he would receive a crown of righteousness. Even as Paul was being persecuted, he ran his race by staying focused on the prize (
).Paul finished his course with no regrets. He was ready and happy to meet Christ at the end. If you can say the same when you reach the finish line of life, you will have finished your course well by staying focused on the things that really matter – things that are in God’s will for you (the things that define your course) and staying faithful to those things. Although there’s nothing you can take with you when you leave, what you leave behind can make a difference, especially if you’ve finished your course pleasing God and receiving your crown.
CONSIDER:
- How can you stay focused on fighting the good fight?
- Where can you go to find and finish the course that God has for you?
- What does keeping the faith mean to you? How can you be consistent at keeping that faith?
APPLICATION:
Stay faithful to the course God has for you, anticipating the prize that awaits you when you finish!
