Read: 2 Peter 1:1-4
1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
KEY THOUGHT:
It’s always nice to receive a gift. In fact, some might say that all gifts are special. But we all know that some gifts are not just nice and special; some gifts are great! And those great gifts we hold precious. That’s what faith is – a precious gift of God that is greater than all others, because by faith you have access to God’s grace and His Salvation through Jesus Christ. It’s such a great gift because Jesus brings you peace with God. He brings access to the promise of salvation that could only come from God – all things that pertain to life and godliness; glory and virtue; a divine nature and freedom from the corruption of sin. As Peter says, these are “exceeding great and precious promises” and all a great gift from God to you.
CONSIDER:
- What makes a gift precious?
- Why is the gift of salvation precious to you?
- If you were to list the greatest gifts you’ve ever received, what would they be?
- Is it possible for you to share with others the great gift God gave you?
APPLICATION:
Be grateful for the great and precious gift of God – your salvation.
