READ: 2 Peter 1:16-18
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
KEY THOUGHT:
How do you defend your faith? To defend your faith you need to have proof. You need to be able to testify. You need to be a witness. Peter writes about his eyewitness account of Jesus Christ. He says that it is not a fable but is truth. You may not have an eyewitness account to share, but you have the witness of the Holy Spirit. If you’ve trusted Jesus Christ as Savior, it’s because the Holy Spirit drew you to Him. He convicted you of your sins and showed you that you needed a Savior. That’s not a natural thing to do… it’s supernatural. Although you didn’t hear a voice, you heard the gospel from God’s Holy Word – the Bible. You can trust in this great truth to be the basis for your defense. It is your testimony and witness of the truth of God’s love toward you that He would show mercy and grace through His only Son to save you and change your life. What a great truth to know, defend, and share!
CONSIDER:
- What Biblical evidence can you trust in to defend your salvation?
- What made you first trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior?
- Do you have a written testimony? If not, make it your goal to write your testimony, being sure to reference why you believe what you believe.
APPLICATION:
Be ready to testify of the great Truth of salvation!
