READ: 1 John 3:19-21
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
KEY THOUGHT:
You’ve probably heard someone say something like this when you were struggling with a decision: “just follow your heart and you will be OK…” Well, hopefully you know that isn’t the truth! The prophet Jeremiah described the heart this way in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” The truth is, you can’t follow your heart… unless your heart is aligned with the truth and the will of God.
If you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit of God in you to help guide you in the ways of God’s truth and His will. If you seek God’s will, the Holy Spirit will assure your heart to His will. If you ever find yourself in a difficult place outside of God’s will, ask yourself what got you there. Chances are, you were following the desires of your heart and neglecting the Holy Spirit. God is greater than your heart. You can give your heart to God and trust Him with it.
CONSIDER:
- Why is it easier to follow your heart than to follow the Holy Spirit?
- How can you be sure that your heart’s desire is aligned with God’s will?
- What are some steps you can take to have a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit?
APPLICATION:
Allow the Holy Spirit of God to rule your heart with truth!
