READ: Ephesians 2:20-22
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
KEY THOUGHT:
Every household needs a house. Together with your fellow citizens (your brothers and sisters in Christ), you fit together as the “house” for God’s family, with Jesus as the cornerstone. We commonly call that a sanctuary or the church. But the church is not a physical building—it’s the body of Christ on earth—a body of believers who stand as one building for the Holy Spirit to do His work through. Your body is a new “house” for the Spirit of God. The chorus of the worship song “Sanctuary” captures this well:
“Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You”
CONSIDER:
- How does being part of the “house of God” make you different from those who are outside “the house”?
- How does God make His presence known in you as part of the body of Christ on earth?
- Do you agree that God’s house should glorify Him? If so, how can you glorify God?
APPLICATION:
Prepare your new “house” to be a sanctuary for the Spirit of God!
