A Personal Holiness

A Personal Holiness

READ: 1 Peter 1:13-16

1 Peter 1:13-16 (KJV)
13  Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14  As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15  But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

KEY THOUGHT:

One of the things you don’t hear about much these days is holiness. Holiness is the state of being holy – a condition where you are totally dedicated to God and set aside for His purpose. In other words, holiness is godliness not selfishness. As a Christian, you are called to be holy by following the example of Christ and not the example of the world. God saved you and set you apart from sin and the world so that you could dedicate yourself to Him. There’s a reason you don’t hear much about holiness today – it’s because living a life of holiness isn’t easy. But God called you to it, so He will help. It requires learning His Word, exercising self-control, accepting His grace, and obeying what you learn and what the Holy Spirit reveals to you. When you do these things, you can live in a way that exemplifies personal holiness – godliness not selfishness.

CONSIDER:

  1. What does the word holiness mean to you?
  2. What are some behaviors that are contrary to being holy?
  3. What are some things that keep you from personal holiness? How can you overcome those things?

APPLICATION:

Ask for God’s help and take steps toward personal holiness.
