A Personal Knowledge

READ: 1 John 5:16-21

1 John 5:16-21 (KJV)
16  If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
17  All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
18  We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
21  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

KEY THOUGHT:

As part of God’s gift to you, He provides the Holy Spirit. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to give you understanding and knowledge of God’s Word. When you gain this understanding and knowledge, the Holy Spirit uses it to convict you of sin. Through God’s Word you learn about God’s will and about the things that please Him. You learn that going outside of God’s will or disobeying Him is sin. The Holy Spirit reminds you of that and helps you to do right and avoid sinful activities. You can know that you are a child of God because the Holy Spirit leads you and convicts you through your personal knowledge of Christ when you don’t follow Him. Having a personal knowledge of the Savior is vital to godly living!

CONSIDER:

  1. What does it mean to have a personal knowledge of something?
  2. How can you have a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior?
  3. How does having a personal knowledge of the Son of God help keep you from committing sin?

APPLICATION:

Know your Savior Jesus Christ and let that personal relationship be known to others.
