READ: 1 Peter 1:17-21
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
KEY THOUGHT:
Redemption is a word that means a debt was paid and ownership was exchanged. For those who are true believers in Jesus Christ, redemption is salvation from sinas part of God’s planned redemption. In God’s plan, He paid your sin debt with the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, because there was no way that you could pay the debt yourself. God’s payment transferred your ownership from self to God. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, God’s Word explains that you were bought with a price and you are not your own. According to today’s Scripture, God planned to redeem you with Jesus Christ from the foundation of the world. It wasn’t a new idea to God. He always had the promise of salvation in His plan. Are you a true believer? Are you part of God’s planned redemption?
CONSIDER:
- How does payment for something change ownership?
- Is it possible to belong to God and still live selfishly as if you belonged to the world? Why or why not?
- What does it mean to be redeemed or purchased by God?
- Why did God plan to redeem you?
APPLICATION:
Live as if you have been redeemed by God and belong to Him.
