A Prayer of Completion (1 Thessalonians 5:23-28)

READ: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28

1 Thessalonians 5:23-28 (KJV)
23  And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24  Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
25  Brethren, pray for us.
26  Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
27  I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
28  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

KEY THOUGHT:

The apostle Paul concludes his first letter to the Thessalonians with a brief prayerful message that should be echoed throughout the body of Christ, especially today when their is so much division and worldliness in the church. This simple prayer seeks God’s intervention for the sanctification and preservation of believers so that they may be blameless at Christ’s return. Being blameless means that you can have no legitimate charge against you. That happens when you submit yourself to the will of God through sanctification – being set apart – by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sanctification is the work of God. You can trust that He is faithful to accomplish what He’s called you to be and to do!

CONSIDER:

  1. Why should the church pray for sanctification as the day of Christ’s return approaches?
  2. How does your behavior reflect a separated life for Christ?
  3. How does praying for sanctification help you be a better Christian?

APPLICATION:

Pray for God’s intervention to set you apart to glorify Him through the church as you anticipate Christ’s return.
