READ: 1 Thessalonians 3:6-10
6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
8 For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
KEY THOUGHT:
What do you desire most when you are going through a difficult time? For most of us, the answer would be, “help.” But what is the best help that you can get? Even when a fellow helper may show up, there’s usually a need for more. As Paul described his interaction with the Thessalonians, he mentions the good report he received from Timothy, even as the Thessalonians were afflicted. His response was to pray. When you are troubled in any way, the best help is prayer. If you want to be a fellow helper to someone who’s afflicted, then you can help by praying – interceding on someone’s behalf through Jesus Christ. Praying opens up a wellspring of power – not your power, but God’s power. By faith, you will see his intervention will bring the solution needed to a difficult situation.
CONSIDER:
- How has prayer helped you through a difficult situation (think of how God intervened during that time)?
- What can you do to help someone else when they are going through a trial?
- Is prayer enough to get a solution to a problem? Why or why not?
APPLICATION:
Be a faithful and prayerful help to others!
