1 Peter 2:21-25 (KJV)
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

You should know that there is an example to follow when suffering for the sake of good. In fact, you have the greatest example of suffering for good in Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd. Jesus was willing to suffer for the good of His sheep, even to the extent that He gave His life in love for His sheep. Think of Psalm 23, as it begins “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want…” According to that Psalm, the Good Shepherd knows His sheep, protects His sheep, comforts His sheep, provides for His sheep, leads His sheep, and delivers His sheep from danger. If you are a true believer in Jesus Christ, then He is your Good Shepherd! Not only can you trust Him as your example in suffering, but also as your protector and deliverer from suffering!
CONSIDER:
- Why did Jesus suffer for doing good?
- What was Jesus’ response to those who caused Him to suffer?
- What are some characteristics that make Jesus your personal Good Shepherd?
- How does Jesus protect you and deliver you from suffering?
APPLICATION:
Trust in Jesus Christ, the Shepherd of your soul, for comfort when you suffer for doing good.
