READ: 1 Peter 2:11-16
1 Peter 2:11-16 (KJV)
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

KEY THOUGHT:
As a child of God, you have a spiritual duty to live for Him in obedience to His Word. That’s not an easy thing to do because of the battle with your flesh. Every Christian faces those battles and must submit to God in order to have victory. The hardest thing to do as a Christian is to do the will of God and not the will of self. Submitting to do your spiritual duty will lead you to a life of peace with others and a testimony of good works that brings glory to God.
CONSIDER:
- Would you say that you are more obedient or more disobedient when it comes to the way you live for Christ?
- What can help you be a more obedient Christian?
- What are some indications that you live a life of obedience to Christ?
- How does obedience lead to peace, contentment and a good testimony for Christ?
APPLICATION:
Submit yourself to the leading of the Holy Spirit and not to selfishness.
