READ: 2 Timothy 2:22-26
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
KEY THOUGHT:
Submission means that you accept and yield to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person. In the case of a Christian, submission means that you accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, giving His will preeminence over your own will. As such, you become a servant that performs the will of your master, Jesus Christ. Being a submissive servant means that you leave your own desires behind and make the pursuit of Christ your supreme goal. Submitting to Christ is accomplished by pursuing Him:
- His righteousness,
- faith,
- love,
- purity…
all of these things, along with peace and unity in the church, which is His body, are essential to being a submissive, surrendered follower of Christ. Submission also involves avoiding things that create strife in the church.
When you submit to Christ as His servant, you become an honest witness of Him to others who need to experience the gospel for their salvation. Submit to Christ and be a true witness for Him!
CONSIDER:
- Are there any parts of your life where you resist submission to Christ? If so, list them and think of ways that you can turn those over to Him.
- How does submission make you a better servant and witness for Christ?
- What can you do to pursue Christ more effectively?
APPLICATION:
Be a faithful witness by being a submissive servant first!
