Be a Pleasing Worker (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12)

READ: 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 (KJV)
10  For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11  For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
12  Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

KEY THOUGHT:

As a Christian, you have an obligation to work. That obligation involves not only being gainfully employed, but also it means that you should be a productive worker. The example you set in your work is an important part of your Christian testimony. Your work ethic should bring God glory. Christians who are lazy or who are busy bodies in the workplace don’t please God. Instead, they harm the cause of Christ. The apostle Paul declares that those in the church who don’t work, shouldn’t eat. In other words, the main reason to eat is to provide energy to work. Although your work can never earn your salvation, it can certainly earn your meal. Are you working in a way that pleases God?

CONSIDER:

  1. In what ways do you work to help the ministry?
  2. What’s the problem with being a busy body in the church?
  3. How does your work ethic please God?

APPLICATION:

Be a busy doing the work of the body of Christ, not a busy body!
