READ: 1 Peter 4:1-5
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
KEY THOUGHT:
Sometimes you might suffer for wrongdoing. Sometimes you may suffer for righteousness sake. In any case, you should be prepared to suffer. Suffering for being a Christian through persecution from the world should be expected and endured for the sake of Jesus Christ. In fact, this is the suffering you should desire over suffering because you decide to disobey or rebel against authorities or against God. You should strive to live a clean life and have a spotless record so that no one could speak evil of you or bring cause for suffering against you. When you experience trials and suffering for living a life of purity and separation from sin, you will know that those trials and sufferings ultimately bring glory to God and that in the end, God will judge those who do evil to you.
CONSIDER:
- What are some ways that Christians are persecuted by the world?
- Have you ever been persecuted for naming Jesus Christ as your Savior? How did you respond?
- Why is it important to live a clean life for Jesus?
- How does sinful activity affect your testimony for Jesus Christ? Would you say that you have a spotless or a spotted testimony?
APPLICATION:
Strive to do right so that others won’t have ammunition to use against you!
