Have a Strong Resolve

READ: 1 Peter 3:13-17

1 Peter 3:13-17 (KJV)
13  And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
14  But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16  Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17  For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

KEY THOUGHT:

When the going gets tough… what really happens? The phrase usually ends with “the tough keep going.” But is that really true? Sometimes it’s much easier to quit and find an easier way, even when you know that you’ve been trying to do the right thing as a Christian – especially when doing good brings challenges that you don’t think you deserve. With Christ in your life, you have His strength to keep you going. Even when the challenges that you face wear on you and you feel like running away, resolve to trust God and have hope. He will re-energize you for the long haul when you recognize that that the challenges you face are no surprise to Him, but just a tough part of His will as He keeps you going.

CONSIDER:

  1. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced as a Christian?
  2. How did you respond to the challenges you faced? Did your response honor God?
  3. How can you sharing the reason of the hope that is in you help encourage others who are going through challenges?

APPLICATION:

Resolve to stay in the race, even when the finish line isn’t in sight!
