Keeping His Commandments

Keeping His Commandments

READ: 1 John 3:22-24

1 John 3:22-24 (KJV)
22  And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
23  And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24  And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

KEY THOUGHT:

Pleasing God should be one of your prime objectives. In fact, God’s Word says in Revelation 4:11 that you were created for God’s pleasure. When you set out to please God, you give Him honor and glory by keeping God’s commandments and doing the things that Jesus spoke about. That starts with believing on Jesus’ name. It follows with loving one another. That sounds simple, but it’s not. First of all, to really believe on Jesus is to place 100% of your trust in Him. That means that you don’t trust yourself. You don’t trust your heart. You don’t trust anything but Him. Secondly, to love one another means that you don’t gossip about others, you don’t lie to others, you don’t speak unkindly to or about others… and so on. Jesus said these words in John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” Are you keeping His commandments and pleasing Him?

CONSIDER:

  1. Why does God expect you to keep His commandments?
  2. How does keeping God’s commandments demonstrate your love to Him?
  3. What proves that the Holy Spirit abides in you?

APPLICATION:

Demonstrate your love for God by doing His will!
