READ: 1 Timothy 6:1-2
1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
KEY THOUGHT:
Staying true to honor means that you give the proper respect and recognition to those in authority over you. Those in authority may vary based on your position. But in all cases, everyone serves somebody, and we all serve God. With that in mind, you should give the ultimate honor to the Father and to His Son, Jesus Christ. When you submit to the Holy Spirit, honoring God and His Son can be accomplished more consistently. Honoring others who have positions of mastery is also your Christian duty. When you honor those in authority, it provides others with a positive view of your Christianity. Showing honor to others is a way of showing Christ. In doing so, you might open a door of opportunity for an unbeliever to meet Christ through you.
CONSIDER:
- How does honoring those you serve help show others God and the truth of His Word?
- Why would dishonoring an authority figure jeopardize your Christian testimony?
- How has social media given Christians a platform for dishonoring authority figures? What can you do to protect your testimony on social networks?
APPLICATION:
Represent Christ well by honoring those you serve.
