Stay True to the Word (1 Timothy 4:6-9)

READ: 1 Timothy 4:6-9

1 Timothy 4:6-9 (KJV)
6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7  But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8  For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9  This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

KEY THOUGHT:

Staying true to the Word means that you take God’s Word to heart as it is and as a daily practice. The apostle Paul’s instructions state that you are to be “nourished up” in the Word. You need to be in the Word and the Word needs to be in you. Not only is the Word in you, but it is exercised or practiced as part of your daily routine. This can be accomplished through daily devotions, a systematic Bible reading program, Scripture memory, and then getting involved in service opportunities that put what you read and learn from the Bible into practical application.

CONSIDER:

  1. How does reading the Bible fit into your daily routine?
  2. What are some of the advantages of memorizing Scripture?
  3. If you were to establish an exercise routine for godliness, what would be included in your exercise plan?

APPLICATION:

Get into the Word and let the Word get into you!
