READ: Psalm 30:11-12 and Philippians 4:18-20
11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Philippians 4:18-20 (KJV)
18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
KEY THOUGHT:
OK, I’ll admit it… I really enjoy filling up on Thanksgiving Day. When family gathers for a time of fellowship and giving thanks (and football, of course), I’m pretty much open to try anything – food, that is. By the time the Thanksgiving meal is over and it’s time for dessert, I’m usually ready to retire to watch football and take a long break from food. Then, someone suggests dessert and I’m quick to reply, “I’m still full,” although at my first sight of the pumpkin pie or holiday cookies, I jump right in. As the dessert, football, and family fellowship continue, I remain full as blessings keep coming my way… still full, not only full of turkey, dressing, and dessert; but, also full of thanksgiving for all that God has richly blessed me with over this past year and throughout my life.
Are you still full? Even as the fullness of Thanksgiving Day passes, you can still thank God for another day to live and serve Him and for the gift of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, so that you can have fellowship and eternal life with Him. There’s so much to be thankful for… I’m still full of thanksgiving, how about you?
CONSIDER:
- What is the focus of your thanksgiving?
- Is it possible to get too full of thanksgiving? Why or why not?
- What can you do to stay full of thanksgiving throughout the year?
APPLICATION:
Let your desire to praise God keep you full of thanksgiving throughout the year!
