READ: 1 John 2:15-17
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
KEY THOUGHT:
God wants you to be safe. He warns you to stay away from danger. One of those dangers is the world you live in. The world is a dangerous place. God didn’t create the world to be dangerous, but sin makes it so. The world is filled with evil attractions that lure you to a trap that Satan prepares for you. Consider the what follows loving the world and all that is in it: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. All of these things lead to a treacherous end. According to James 1:16, when lust is conceived, it brings sin and ultimately death. But, by doing God’s will to resist the temptation to love the world, you can avoid the death brought on by sin and abide with God forever in Jesus Christ.
CONSIDER:
- What are some of the dangers of loving the world?
- Why does Satan desire for you to love the world?
- Where can you find strength to resist the temptation to love the world?
APPLICATION:
Live in the world, but don’t love it!
