The Greatest Hero of All

The Greatest Hero of All

READ: Ephesians 2:8-17

Ephesians 2:8-17 (KJV)
8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11  Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12  That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13  But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17  And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

KEY THOUGHT:

What’s your favorite type of book or movie? Usually, we like stories with happy endings, with some kind of tension leading up to that ending. Maybe it’s the story where the human race is trying to overcome some great challenge and the super hero comes just in the nick of time to save the day. Or, it could be that you’re a romantic, and it’s the story where the girl is wishing so hard to be loved and when she least expects it, a hero arrives to sweep her off her feet. And, of course they live happily ever after, right? In real life, we are in a similar dilemma. We are facing a challenge that we can’t win. We are looking for a love that will last forever, but it’s just out of reach. No matter how hard we try or how long we wish fort it, it just seems to evade us. The truth is “happily ever after” only comes through eternal life in Jesus Christ. He is the hero of our faith who saves us. That only happens by believing and having faith only in Him. Our works won’t help. Only faith in Him will do it. Has Jesus been a hero to you?

CONSIDER:

  1. Think of the time when you trusted Christ for salvation. How did He save you?
  2. Since the day you trusted Christ as Savior, has your faith increased, stayed the same, or decreased?
  3. What evidence is there in your life that your faith in Christ is real?

APPLICATION:

Trust in the hero of your faith – Jesus Christ!
