The Majesty of Christmas (Luke 2:20; 2 Corinthians 4:1-6)

The Majesty of Christmas (Luke 2:20; 2 Corinthians 4:1-6)

READ: Luke 2:20 and 2 Corinthians 4:1-6

Luke 2:20 (KJV)
20  And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

2 Corinthians 4:1-6 (KJV)
1  Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2  But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

KEY THOUGHT:

Let’s take a poll… conduct an assessment… make some observations… what is it that gets glorified this Christmas? When others look upon our Christmas activities, what will they find glorified? Next week, on December 26, after all of the presents are unwrapped, the Christmas songs are replaced with the next big thing, and we look back on this Christmas, what will have received glory in our sight? Sadly, it may not be what we thought it would be. There’s really only one thing worthy of glorification this Christmas and every other day of the year, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. If we measure our motives and size up our activities and find that the glory to God in the highest is missing, then we must ask ourselves, “what was our Christmas all about?” There is but one meaningful purpose to this season – that is to glorify Jesus.

It’s easy to fall short of glorifying God. In fact, God’s Word tells us that we all fall short of His glory. It’s this very reason that there is a Christmas. God in His glory sent a Savior to redeem us into His glory so that we could show forth His glory in a darkened world. Let His glory shine!

As you celebrate Christmas, don’t neglect the reality that Christ was born to pay the price for your sins. His glory is revealed through Christmas, through His mission and through a life surrendered to and lived for Jesus Christ. This season give Jesus the glory of Christmas! Glory to God in the highest!

CONSIDER:

  1. In what way does the commonly accepted celebration of Christmas glorify Jesus?
  2. What are some things that you do to specifically recognize Christ’s majesty and glorify God during the Christmas season?
  3. What can you do to help others glorify Jesus throughout the year?

APPLICATION:

Make glorifying Jesus Christ the focus of your Christmas!
