The Miracle of Christmas (Isaiah 7:10-16)

The Miracle of Christmas (Isaiah 7:10-16)

READ: Isaiah 7:10-16

Isaiah 7:10-16 (KJV)
10  Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
11  Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
12  But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
13  And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15  Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
16  For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

KEY THOUGHT:

As the Christmas season approaches, things get busy. Shopping, parties, choir rehearsals, parades, and all sorts of festivities fill our hours. Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas and we get our priorities out of order. In the midst of the hustle, bustle, wrappings and ribbons, Christmas can lose its true meaning.

Keeping Christ first this Christmas is accomplished by recognizing that what we celebrate at Christmas is a miracle of God. If we ever forget that miracle or take for granted the miraculous night that Christ was born on this earth, we will find ourselves all wrapped up in the commercialized Christmas that permeates the world today.

Contrary to what Hollywood might promote, Christmas isn’t a miracle because of what happened on 34th Street or because angels get their wings… Christmas is a miracle because God became flesh and dwelt among us. Immanuel was born. Salvation came to mankind. This is the miracle of Christmas – the miracle of Christ. Get wrapped up in the Christmas miracle that is Jesus, our Immanuel as described in Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

CONSIDER:

  1. What makes the Christmas season special to you?
  2. Why is it important to always keep Christ in the forefront, especially at Christmas?
  3. What can you rearrange in your schedule to ensure that you keep the miracle of Christmas, Jesus Christ, first?

APPLICATION:

Focus on the real miracle of Christmas – Jesus Christ!
