KEY THOUGHT:
How would you describe Christmas? While it would be easy to get caught up in the secular side of Christmas, it’s important to remember the sacredness of the holiday. When you do that, you might have some of the following come to mind:
- a midnight clear…
- the moment of Christ’s birth…
- conceived and announced supernaturally…
- superintended by heavenly host…
- illuminated by heavenly light…
- manifest in a manger…
- honored in a humble hometown…
All of this is part of the moment of Christmas.
As you read the Bible verses referenced in today’s devotion that all relate to the moment of Christ’s birth, consider all that occurred to make the moment of His birth so significant.
When you remember the significance of the moment and setting of Jesus’ birth, you will keep Him first at Christmas. Remembering your first personal encounter with Jesus and marking that moment and setting helps keep the joy of His salvation prominent in your heart and life. For example. when I think of the midnight clear moment when the Son of God was born on earth, in a manger, and wrapped in humanity to die for His creation and especially to die for me, I can’t help but know that this is the most wonderful time of the year! It’s a time to remember Him not just as a baby, but also as Savior, Redeemer, Lord, King – God with us!
When Christ is recognized for all that He is, the moment of Christmas becomes first and foremost all about Him.
