READ: Ephesians 2:1-7
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
KEY THOUGHT:
Think back to a time that you were surprised with a gift that you didn’t deserve. I can remember afternoons when my dad came home from work and had a special treat for me… even on days when I had been disobedient. Even better, I can think of a time when I had been caught in deep trouble and yet was pardoned and set free without punishment! That was the day I was saved by God through faith in Jesus Christ. I knew what I deserved; but instead of getting what I deserved, God demonstrated His grace and saved me! You might wonder why God would do such a thing for someone so undeserving? Verse 4 of today’s passage tells us why… “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us…” Even in the midst of my sin, God loved me so much that He would give me salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ. Those treats my dad gave on days when I was not so good were nice, but the grace God gave when I deserved to die is worth more than I can ever say!
CONSIDER:
1. God shows His love toward us in special ways. How has God revealed His love to you?
2. If you were to list all of the great things about God, what would be first on your list?
3. How has your life changed because of the grace you’ve received from God? (NOTE: If you have never received God’s grace, then you can’t answer this question. But, the great thing is that God’s grace extends to you—if you will accept it by trusting in Jesus Christ.)
APPLICATION:
Accept the gift of God’s grace and experience His salvation!
