READ: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2
1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
KEY THOUGHT:
Even though you know that something is about to happen, waiting for it to happen can be very difficult. Dealing with the anxiety associated with waiting is a hard but necessary thing. What if the waiting becomes too much to handle? Have you ever been angry or disappointed? Have you ever given up and believed naysayers who proclaim that what you know is about to happen won’t happen? The key to surviving the wait is trusting that what you know is about to happen will happen at the right time.
Paul warned the Thessalonians as they anticipated Christ’s return that the waiting would be difficult. He encouraged them to trust that Christ would return as promised by not changing their mind to follow false teachings and by not being worried that what was promised would be missed. The testimony of trust is found in steadfastness in the truth. You can demonstrate trust by faithfully waiting on the promises of Jesus Christ.
CONSIDER:
- What do you do when waiting for something to happen makes you anxious?
- How can you better trust God when you are waiting for Him to answer a prayer or do a work in your life?
APPLICATION:
Have a testimony of trust as you wait for God to answer prayer and as you anticipate Christ’s return.
