READ: 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13)
11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
KEY THOUGHT:
Love is a supernatural motivator for helping others. That supernatural motivation was demonstrated by God through His Son Jesus to you when He gave all and died on the cross so that you could be saved from sin. God’s love is freely offered and given. It is multiplied through you for the purpose of helping others, especially by bringing them the gospel. But even in a more simple and practical sense, love is compassion toward others. It is realized through Christian charity as described by the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13.
Although love is freely offered and given by God, it’s not as easily practiced by man. That’s why you need to ask for God’s help to increase your capacity to love and to allow His love to abound in you. Only when the love of God is your abundance can it be shared with others in the practical ways of Christian charity – patiently, humbly, unselfishly, sacrificially, joyfully, and faithfully.
CONSIDER:
- How does love motivate you to help someone ?
- What are some evidences that God is increasing your love toward others?
- How does God’s love provide the help you need for eternal life?
APPLICATION:
Demonstrate the compassion of God by helping others.
