A Sanctified Vessel (2 Timothy 1:19-21)

A Sanctified Vessel (2 Timothy 1:19-21)

READ: 2 Timothy 2:19-21

2 Timothy 2:19-21 (KJV)
19  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

KEY THOUGHT:

The most important part of any building is its foundation. If a foundation isn’t secure, then anything placed on it can be in real danger of collapsing. A vessel placed on a shaky foundation is on the verge of being influenced by external factors, which can lead to corruption. A vessel that’s set on a sound foundation finds itself sanctified by the foundation – it is set apart from corruption.

If a foundation is solid and has good integrity, it can support a sound structure even when there are adverse external conditions. Your foundation as a Christian is important. It starts with God and His Son, Jesus Christ. If you build your life on Christ and on His righteousness, you can stand and withstand trials and challenges of this life. If your foundation is on any other thing, it will be corrupted and won’t stand against such challenges.

Vessels founded on Jesus Christ are vessels of honor sanctified, or set apart, for God’s use. Is your foundation sure? Are you trusting in Christ and His righteousness to prepare you for His work?

CONSIDER:

  1. What does it mean to depart from iniquity? How does iniquity harm your integrity?
  2. How does trusting in the world system corrupt you?
  3. Why is it important to build your life on the saving work of Jesus Christ and His gospel?

APPLICATION:

Be a vessel of honor by having your foundation set in Christ!
